What is the Family Pantry?

The Family Pantry is a volunteer operated not-for-profit organization located in Edmonton, Alberta that provides free nutritional food for families who have a family member undergoing medical treatment. Our main projects are Compassion House and Ronald McDonald House.

Why is this necessary?

Families are far from home and do not have support systems in place to meet their immediate needs. The cost of staying in the city and buying food puts a financial strain on family income. Most families also have other members at home who are incurring the regular cost of living in their own residence.

What does the Family Pantry do?

On a regular basis, volunteers go to the facility to re-stock a cupboard with food products that are accessible free of charge to families utilizing the facility. We provide items such as: baked goods, soups, pasta, cereals, juice, granola bars, etc. We also provide a basket of free toiletries: shampoo, toothpaste and brushes, hand lotion, and soaps. We visit with the families who are staying at the facility and encourage them to access our service.

Where do we get the food?

Some of the food is donated and other items are purchased through our fund raising events.

What are our future plans?

We plan to go to other facilities and agencies to provide our assistance.
